Overview

VMware Tools is a set of services and modules that enable several features in VMware products for better management of, and seamless user interactions with, guests operating systems. It is recommended to deploy VMWareTools as soon as you deploy VMs. Severals functionalities will be available after deployment.

  • It's possible to have the same functionalities with open_sources package open-vm-tools.
  • You can update also the Hardware version by taking into account the compatibility guide.

Please note!

Upgrading virtual hardware can potentially improve performance. You need to check compatibility with your OS.

Upgrading the hardware version is done when the VM is Power Off.

=== Hardware compatibility matrice ===
  • NGP >> ESXi 7.0U2

NGP supports the Hardware version (19)

  • NUP (FCA) >> ESXi 6.7U3

The NUP (FCA) platform supports up to Hardware version 15.

For prevention purposes, a limit has been set at version hardware 14 on FCA at vCloudDirector level.

It's useful to know this when you want to VM Deploy from an OVF.
